Over time, situations change but then again, do they?
One time back in the day, a young 6 was sitting on the beach, contemplating life, 6 noticed a nice young couple walking down the boardwalk and entering the beach. The young man sat down on the boardwalk between the dunes in an attempt to reduce the wind, and fired up! They we dressed in cutoff jeans, and matching tie-dyed shirts with a Peace sign, the young man had his hair pulled back in a pony tail, with his tattered leather cowboy hat. They also both had matching light blue tinted Windsor glasses. As they passed the doobie, back and forth to each other while drinking a nice cup of coffee. They approached us saying Peace, and asking if we would like a hit of their doobie, or Ripple (old time Rex) …..
Fast forward to this year! As one may expect, once again 6 was sitting on the beach, this time with 7 & 8. Absent, was the rest of the vacationers, for there happened to be a few raindrops, accompanied by a breathtaking light show supplied by mother nature (Here Comes the Sun). After all it was Rex time! As one looked down the beach, one could see a couple walking down the boardwalk, the man bent down on the boardwalk between the dunes, and before one knew it one could see the smoke rising from the dunes. Mother nature once again provided, a classifiable fragrance soon engulfed our Shibumi. Before one knew it, they were both visible, sauntering towards our abode. Much like 50 years ago, they were dressed very much the same. The mans cowboy hat was replaced with a ball cap, but his hair was now gray, but still had the distinctive ponytail! They both had the “teashades”, but now the light blue tint was gone for now they looked more like the bottoms of “coke bottles”. Cut-off jeans now lululemon. Tie-died tee shirt once again lululemon While they were still about 30 yards away the discussion quickly turned to the standard couple on the beach… A rich old man with a young girl, bets were made (and never paid offfff), soon it became apparent that they were a couple, a few years senior to us. For they gave us the Peace sign as they passed, passing the joint and drinking their coffee… Fast Forword about 10 minutes and they were on their way back. This time we had to stop them get several questions answered…. So 6 (as usual) yelled over to the ‘How yah din” As one may expect, being from the 60’s generation they stopped and came over to “shoot the breeze” or “Chew the fat”. First, they were both older than Methuselah, so old man and young lady busted…. 8 you still need to pay up! Second: What was in the coffee cup? Were they drinking coffee.. Nope, it was wine, but their cups were empty, so they were heading back to the car to filler up, they left the bottle in their car, after all no glass on the beach! In retrospect we could have offered them some of our Rex, but then again, 6 was done “chewing the Fat”. Finally, were they Friday nighters.. yes, but it was only Thursday…
One may question 6 on if it was the same couple, but as we all know, when is 6 ever wrong! For in this case who can dispute 6.
Words of wisdom: He who takes the wrong road, makes the journey twice over.
