After a long day, when 6 lay his head on the pillow, visions of Kiawah fill his imagination,
the warm sun beating down on a bald head, three empty glasses glistening on the
beach as the sun raises over the horizon,
the sight of empty beach chairs as a wave gently washes a jelly fish
across his leg, standing in a line while patiently waiting his turn at the
evening dinner, carefully pouring a glass of Rex, as to not alerting the beach
patrol while keeping that sand from impeding the bouche of the fine vintage.
Then it is off to never-never land and the anticipation of the new day. Over the course of the year, 6 finds that
there are times when events divert his imagination from the beach to current
activities: Parties, weddings, anniversaries, funerals, holidays..... Well this
is the time of year where visions of sugar plumbs (whatever they are) are
dancing in his head. The other night my imagination brought me back to a
Christmas 50 years ago. In a simpler time, we had no fear of global warming,
religious wars, cyber security, diversity, or common core. We had the fear of a
coming ice age, nuclear war, Watergate break-ins, equal rights marches, and
school desegregation. (The words change, but the world stays the same) Dinner, homework, bath, shoes shined, and the
family was gathered in the TV room patiently awaiting the premier of a new TV
special called “A Charlie Brown’s Christmas”. As of today’s standards, it was
not much of an event, but back in the day, it was truly amazing! Little did he
know that it would become an icon of the holiday season, just like Mr.Magoo’s
Christmas, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, White Christmas, and every
year since he would be mesmerized by the words: “and on earth peace, good will
towards men” “Oh Scrooge you have done it again” “He is going to shoot his eye out” “Shitter full”. Now lets us fast forward to
today. The reason for the diversion from the sun and fun at Kiawah when 6’s head
hit the pillow that night was simple: he just watched it for the 50th time, but
there was something different this year. The local news was doing a story about
Charlie Brown’s Christmas… Did you know when Charles Shultz wrote the story, he
was under significant pressure from the studio executives (PC) to take out the
part where Linus talks about the meaning of Christmas. "And there were in
the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock
by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the
Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto
them, 'Fear not:" "for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great
joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of
David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying
in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly
host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth
peace, good will toward men.'" (For
all you experts of the word, yes this is from the King James Bible.)They wanted
him to do a complete re-write of the story, he stuck to his principles and told
them he was not going to change it. I guess he won, because he did not change
it and this was the 50th year it has been on TV. That was just the
first part of the story, did you know that our president in 2014 signed an
executive order to fine ABC if they aired that show! “The Federal
Communications Commission, acting on an executive order issued by Barack Obama,
fined the ABC television network for airing A Charlie Brown Christmas, because
several overtly Christian references were found to be “potentially damaging,
offensive and exclusionary” to non-Christians” They keep airing the show and
paying the fine.. So good for them.
The one thing that makes our country different is we are
free to make choices, based on natural law. Today natural law has been replaced
by environmental law (two completely different things), and political
correctness PC. Let’s look at the annual grab bag we have Christmas night, now
it is wide open, you have a choice to be in it or not, there is no limitations
as to what kind of gift you can put into the pot, so choice abounds. Last year
6 picked a bottle of Gentleman Jack great choice 6 was happy. Now it is 5 years
later, you can’t put a bottle of gentleman Jack in the grab bag, because it is
no longer PC. What you say?? Well the name itself implies a male, well that is
not gender neutral and what man today, wants to be referred to as a gentleman
(can’t use that word anymore because it was used in the south 100 years ago).
Whisky also contains alcohol which is not a natural substance like grass. Whiskey is not fermented it is distilled, the
process of distillation requires heat, in order to get the heat, Jack Daniels
burns charcoal, where does the charcoal come from, trees… so it would not be PC
to drink Gentleman Jack because you have to cut down trees, then burn them
giving off CO2 which will destroy the ozone layer, leading to increased world
temperatures, thus melting the polar ice caps, raising the sea level, causing
coastal flooding, turning Kiawah island into the Atlantic ocean. Therefore
vacation will be gone in 5 years! 10 years from now, we will not have Christmas
because it will be “potentially damaging, offensive and exclusionary” to
non-Christians”. It will be holiday day, where smiles will be generated not by
how much of yourself you give to others, but by how much you get
Words of wisdom: Stay focused on the path ahead, conquer the
impediments along the way.
